MUMBAI: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in Mumbai on Wednesday, before travelling to Jamnagar in Gujarat for a tour of Reliance Industries’ massive industrial complex.

Rubio, who arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, met Adani first and then Chandrasekaran, according to reports. Details of the meetings were not disclosed by either side.

The meetings bring together the US administration and two of India’s biggest business groups, both of which have been expanding their presence in strategic sectors ranging from energy and infrastructure to advanced manufacturing and technology.

Adani Group has interests across ports, airports, energy, logistics and infrastructure, while expanding its renewable-energy and manufacturing businesses.

Tata Group, led by Chandrasekaran as chairman of Tata Sons, has interests spanning automobiles, steel, IT, aviation, electronics and advanced manufacturing, including investments in semiconductors and battery technology.

Rubio is scheduled to travel to Jamnagar to visit Reliance’s oil-refining complex, Vantara and the group’s new-energy manufacturing facilities.

Visit to Jamnagar complex

Reliance’s Jamnagar complex houses the world’s largest single-site oil refinery, with a combined processing capacity of about 1.4 million barrels a day.

The site also houses Vantara, a wildlife rescue, treatment and rehabilitation initiative launched by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation under Anant Ambani’s leadership. Spread across more than 3,500 acres, the facility focuses on the care and rehabilitation of injured, threatened and rescued animals and wildlife conservation.

Rubio is also expected to visit Reliance’s Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex, a planned new-energy manufacturing hub spread across more than 5,000 acres.

The complex is designed to house manufacturing facilities for solar photovoltaic modules, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen electrolysers, fuel cells and power electronics.

The investments are part of Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani’s strategy to build an integrated clean-energy business alongside the group’s established oil-refining and petrochemicals operations, with the aim of supporting India’s energy transition and reducing dependence on imported clean-energy equipment.

Sources said Rubio will visit all three facilities in Jamnagar before flying back to the US.
