Outage hits 8.5 mn Microsoft devices

MUMBAI: A global technology outage, linked to a software update by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, impacted approximately 8.5 million Microsoft devices, as stated by Microsoft in a recent blog post.

According to Microsoft, “We estimate that CrowdStrike’s update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, which represents less than one percent of all Windows machines.”

Microsoft also mentioned that CrowdStrike has developed a scalable solution to aid in fixing the issue within Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. Additionally, Microsoft collaborated with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to devise effective strategies to address the situation.

The IT outage caused widespread disruptions across various industries, including delays and cancellations for air passengers worldwide, affecting operations at airports and airlines, as well as impacting banks and media companies.
