Apple to unveil new iPhones, watches and more on September 10 event

The event, which has the tagline “It’s Glowtime,” will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park

BENGALURU: Apple Inc. is set to host its major product launch event of the year on September 9.

The event, which has the tagline “It’s Glowtime,” will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park.

The event, scheduled for a Tuesday, will showcase the newest iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. Although the exact timing of the event has not been disclosed, preparations for the launch are underway.

Following the event, the new iPhone 16 models are expected to go on sale on September 20, aligning with Apple’s usual launch schedule. This release is crucial for Apple, which has experienced slow sales of smartphones and wearables recently.

The September 20 launch would contribute to the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter revenue, with some sales recorded in this period and a larger impact anticipated in the subsequent holiday season quarter.

Revenues to reach $128.4b

Analysts forecast that revenue for this period could increase by 7 per cent, reaching approximately $128.4 billion.

The iPhone 16 will feature larger screens on its Pro models and introduce new camera capabilities, including a dedicated photo button. Additionally, Apple will unveil a new suite of artificial intelligence tools under the name Apple Intelligence.

Despite these updates, the new iPhone models are expected to have only incremental changes compared to last year’s versions.

Significant updates are also anticipated for Apple’s wearable devices. The Apple Watch Series 10 will be thinner and come with larger screens, while the AirPods lineup will see enhancements, including new low-end and mid-tier models.

AirPods to include noise cancellation

For the first time, the mid-level AirPods will include noise cancellation, and the entry-level model will receive its first update since 2019.

Furthermore, Apple is planning to transition its Macs to M4 processors later this year. Typically, Mac updates are announced about a month after the annual iPhone launch.

Apple has been testing four new Mac models, as indicated by developer logs, to ensure compatibility with third-party applications.

32 gigabytes memory

These models are identified as “16,1,” “16,2,” “16,3,” and “16,10,” with base-level M4 chips. The 10-core CPU models include 10-core GPUs, while the eight-core CPU model features an eight-core graphics engine.

All models come with either 16 or 32 gigabytes of memory. The M4 processor in these Macs mirrors the specifications of the chip used in the iPad Pro, with four high-performance cores and six efficiency cores.

The fourth chip variant has eight cores total, split between four high-performance and four efficiency cores.
