MUMBAI: Stock markets opened green on Wednesday with the benchmark BSE Sensex and Nifty soaring in early trades. The BSE Sensex gained 506 points to 76,963 levels, while the Nifty50 surged by 0.65 per cent at 23,417 levels.
Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, HCL Tech, TCS and Powergrid were the top gainers on Sensex, whereas Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank,, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints and Ultratech Cement were among losers.
On Nifty 50 BPCL, Wipro, and LTIMindtree were among the top five leaders while NTPC, Grasim Industries, and Titan led the losses.
Broader indices outperformed the benchmarks with MidCap index rising 0.49 and the SmallCap index above 0.62 per cent.
Among indices, Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty Oil and Gas shot up by 1.34 per cent, 1.05 per cent and 0.97 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, Nifty FMCG led the sectoral losses down 0.28 per cent.
India’s inflation print scheduled to release today is expected to experience a marginal increase to 4.89 per cent, according to a Reuters poll of economists. This projection is slightly higher than April’s 4.83 per cent uptick.
