Six Adani stocks recover from yesterday’s steep fall

MUMBAI:  Shares of six Adani group companies rebounded on Friday after a sharp sell-off the previous day, in line with a rally in the broader equity market where the BSE Sensex soared 1,961 points.

Ambuja Cements rose 3.50 per cent, ACC gained 3.17 per cent, Adani Enterprises climbed 2.16 per cent, Adani Ports advanced 2.05 per cent, Adani Total Gas added 1.18 per cent, and NDTV edged up 0.65 per cent on the BSE.

However, Adani Green Energy shares plunged 8.20 per cent, Adani Energy Solutions fell 6.92 per cent, Adani Power declined 3.23 per cent, and Adani Wilmar slipped 0.73 per cent.

Most Adani stocks traded lower in the morning session after US prosecutors accused billionaire Gautam Adani of being part of a scheme to pay $265 million (about Rs2,200 crore) in bribes to Indian officials for favourable solar power contract terms.

In the broader market, benchmark indices staged a robust recovery. The BSE Sensex rose 1,961.32 points or 2.54 per cent to close at 79,117.11, while the NSE Nifty surged 557.35 points or 2.39 per cent to 23,907.25.

Losses on Thursday

Adani group stocks had witnessed steep losses on Thursday. Adani Enterprises had plunged 22.61 per cent, Adani Energy Solutions tumbled 20 per cent, Adani Green Energy dropped 18.80 per cent, Adani Ports declined 13.53 per cent, Ambuja Cements fell 11.98 per cent, and Adani Total Gas slipped 10.40 per cent.

Other group companies also faced significant declines, with Adani Wilmar falling 9.98 per cent, Adani Power dropping 9.15 per cent, ACC slipping 7.29 per cent, and NDTV dipping 0.06 per cent.

In response to the allegations, the Adani group on Thursday denied any wrongdoing, calling the claims baseless. The group stated it complies with all laws and will pursue all possible legal options.

“The allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against directors of Adani Green are baseless and denied,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
