Mumbai: Indian equities opened higher as investors digest the unexpected Lok Sabha 2024 elections outcome.
BSE Sensex soared 523 points or 0.73 per cent to 72,601.74 levels. NSE’s Nifty50, on the other hand, surged 177 points or 0.70 per cent to 22,061 levels.
Hindustan Unilever, M&M were the top gainers while Power Grid, Axis Bank were the top laggards on BSE.
Similarly, on NSE, Tata Steel, BPCL were the top gainers while Power Grid, Apollo Hospitals were the top laggards.
Broader markets tried to regain lost ground. Nifty SmallCap was up 0.32 per cent while MidCap rose 0.47 per cent.
Sectorally, Nifty FMCG led with over 2 per cent gains, followed by Auto (up 1.73 per cent). Metal was the only loser, dropping 0.36 per cent.
