Indices open higher on global cues

MUMBAI: The Stock market indices Sensex and Nifty opened higher on Thursday, While the Sensex topped the 80,300-mark in opening, the Nifty50 surpassed 24,350 levels, extending their record hitting run amid supportive global cues.

The BSE benchmark hit a record high of 80,331, and was trading at 80,212, up 225 points in early deals. The Nifty50, on the other hand, hit a fresh lifetime high of 24,372, and was trading at 24,356 levels, up 69 points.

HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, M&M, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, and Tech M were the leading large-cap stocks on the frontline indices, rising up to 1.35 per cent. 

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap, and SmallCap indices advanced 0.36 per cent and 0.57 per cent, respectively.

Sectorally, the Nifty IT index was the highest gaining index (up 1 per cent), while the Nifty FMCG index was the top laggard (down 0.06 per cent).
