NEW DELHI: Food delivery giant Zomato is facing an insolvency plea from B2B apparel manufacturer Nona Lifestyle over alleged non-payment of dues amounting to Rs1.64 crore for uniforms and other merchandise, including apparel for the ICC World Cup 2023.
Nona Lifestyle has moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) seeking restoration of its insolvency petition against Zomato under the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP).
The company alleges that despite fulfilling its orders for rider t-shirts, trousers, and jerseys, Zomato delayed payments, refused to accept deliveries, and even pressured them for discounts.
Zomato, however, has denied these claims, stating that Nona Lifestyle failed to meet delivery timelines, which led to penalties and the eventual failure of the campaign. The company asserts that payments were made after adjusting penalties and advance payments.
The insolvency plea was originally dismissed for non-prosecution in November 2024, and Nona Lifestyle has now sought its restoration. During the hearing, NCLT, in a lighter vein, asked the petitioner’s lawyer if she knew what Zomato does. Advocate Tanu Singhal replied, “I use Zomato, I’m in fact a Gold member. However, this is a genuine case.”
The Tribunal has adjourned the matter to April 3, directing Nona Lifestyle to clarify its next course of action, given the pre-existing dispute over dues.
