NEW DELHI: India stands on the brink of a transformative leap in global agri trade, with exporters poised to capitalise on untapped opportunities in the $ 2 trillion global agri market, according to Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Chairman Abhishek Dev.

Speaking at the inauguration of Indusfood 2025 in Greater Noida, Dev highlighted that despite being the seventh-largest agricultural exporter globally, India’s share in the world agri trade is a mere 2.4 per cent. “The numbers reveal huge opportunities to expand our footprint in the global market,” he said.

In 2023-24, India’s agri exports reached $50 billion, and the country is determined to set a new record this year, Dev added. The government is sharpening its focus on promoting value-added products and eyeing exponential growth in the organic food segment.

Ambitious organic growth plans

India’s share in the global organic market, worth $147 billion, stands at 2.5 per cent. “We have an ambitious target to quadruple this share within five years,” Dev stated, citing the steady growth in organic exports – from $213 million in 2012–13 to $494.80 million in 2023–24.

The eighth edition of Indusfoodis hosting over 2,300 exhibitors from 30 countries and attracting 7,500 international buyers, alongside 15,000 Indian buyers and trade visitors. Organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) with support from the Department of Commerce, the event underscores India’s growing prominence in the global food value chain.

Mohit Singla, Chairman of TPCI, emphasised the exhibition’s role in bridging gaps between farmers, technology providers, and global markets. “This platform not only boosts trade but also directly improves farmer incomes by facilitating better market access and value-addition opportunities,” Singla said.

Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan inaugurated the event. Singla noted that the international exhibitor pavilion has nearly doubled its representation this year, with participants from 30 countries.

“The event fosters international collaboration and drives innovation across the food value chain,” he said. With such initiatives, India is not just striving to increase its global market share but also aiming to redefine its agricultural exports with an emphasis on quality, innovation, and sustainability.
