NEW DELHI: Embraer, a prominent global player in the aerospace sector, is strategically positioning itself to enhance its supply chain presence in India.

Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice-President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer, said India’s burgeoning aviation and defence sectors present substantial opportunities for local manufacturers and systems developers.

The company envisions a collaborative framework wherein Indian manufacturers significantly contribute to Embraer’s operations across its defence, commercial aviation, and executive jet divisions.

The recent visit of a high-level delegation from Embraer signifies the company’s commitment to exploring potential supply chain expansions in India. The delegation is actively assessing various manufacturing capabilities in the country, focusing on critical areas such as aerostructures, machining, sheet metal work, composites, forgings, and software development.

Embraer’s recognition of India’s advanced aerospace engineering capabilities underscores the strategic importance of this market, particularly amid the strengthening bilateral ties between Brazil and India.

Collaborative drive

Chaves emphasises that India’s well-established aviation and defence industry presents a promising landscape for collaboration. The partnership between Embraer and Indian manufacturers aligns with a shared vision of enhancing aviation capabilities in both nations while delivering superior value to customers globally.

The collaborative drive is exemplified by Embraer’s existing operational footprint in India, which includes a diverse fleet serving commercial and defence sectors, as well as active engagement with the Indian Air Force.

A notable opportunity that Embraer is pursuing in India is its participation in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme. Embraer’s collaboration with Mahindra—a respected Indian company—positions it favorably to offer the advanced C-390 Millennium transport aircraft.

The partnership, announced in February 2024, illustrates Embraer’s commitment to localising production and creating a robust supply chain in India, in alignment with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
