Cheers! Kerala drinkers could soon enjoy home delivery of booze

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If all goes well, drinkers in Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi may soon enjoy the same service available to their counterparts in Bengal and Odisha.” Inspired by these states, the other seven states are considering delivering liquor directly to consumers’ doorsteps.

Industry sources say that these states are in talks with platforms like Swiggy, BigBasket, and Zomato regarding handling delivery.

Industry executives familiar with the matter said the supply will strictly adhere to the norms and conditions stipulated by various agencies concerned. These include ensuring end-to-end transaction records, age limits, timing, dry days, and zonal supply regulations.

 A company executive asserts that ensuring responsible and regulated home delivery of drinks can enhance consumer convenience, boost economic growth, and align with international cultural trends.”

 According to the industry, sales have gone by 20 to 30 per cent driven by online delivery in West Bengal and Odisha.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Assam permitted liquor door delivery, albeit with restrictions.
