NEW DELHI: BSNL quarterly profit stood at Rs280 crore for the January–March 2025 period, marking the state-run telecom firm’s second consecutive quarterly profit in nearly two decades. This compares with a loss of Rs849 crore in the same quarter a year earlier.

“For the first time in 18 years, back-to-back quarterly profits—net profits, not just operating margins—have been achieved for two quarters in a row after 2007,” Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday.

BSNL had recorded a profit after tax of Rs262 crore in the December quarter. With these two back-to-back profitable quarters, the company has sharply narrowed its full-year loss to Rs2,247 crore in FY25 from Rs5,370 crore in FY24.

BSNL quarterly profit signals a financial turnaround for the company, aided by improved efficiency, government support, and focus on core telecom services.

“The sharp turnaround is testimony to professional management, government backing and a relentless focus on both revenue growth and cost efficiency,” BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A Robert J Ravi said.

BSNL’s operating revenue rose 7.8 per cent to Rs20,841 crore in FY25 from Rs19,330 crore in FY24. Ravi added that with disciplined cost control and ongoing 4G/5G rollouts, the firm is confident of sustaining the momentum.

“We are not chasing profits for their own sake. Our mission is to redefine telecom excellence in public service. Consistently delivering inclusive, high-quality services will naturally lead to financial strength,” he said.
