THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal announced on Thursday that the state government has allocated Rs100 crore to the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) to regulate the prices of essential commodities during the upcoming Vishu and Ramadan seasons.
This initiative aims to provide relief to consumers by distributing essential items at a 35 per cent reduced price through Supplyco outlets across the state.
This allocation is part of the total budget of Rs205 crore designated for market intervention in the current financial year. Supplyco, established in 1974, plays a vital role in stabilising prices of essential goods in Kerala.
In the previous financial year, the government had allocated Rs205 crore for similar market interventions but ended up spending Rs391 crore, underscoring the administration’s commitment to shielding consumers from price volatility during festive periods.
By implementing this subsidy, the Kerala government aims to ensure that households can access essential commodities at affordable prices during Vishu and Ramadan, reflecting its dedication to the welfare of its citizens.
