MUSCAT: UAE envisages a revenue of AED236 billion from tourism in the current year (2024), contributing 12 per cent of the Emirate’s gross domestic product (GDP). During the previous year, tourism brought AED220 billion to the country’s exchequer, accounting for 17 per cent of its GDP.
Addressing the valedictory function of the three-day UN Tourism 50th Regional Commission Meeting for the Middle East in Oman, Khaled Al-Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, who led the UAE delegation, said the tourism sector played a significant role in generating 8.09 lakh jobs across various tourism activities and field in the UAE in 2023.
