L&T joins hands with liT Bby on Green Hydrogen Technology

MUMBAI/April 26-2022: Larsen and Toubro (L&T), the prestigious Indian multinational engaged in EPC Projects, Hi-Tech Manufacturing and Services, has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology (IiT) Bombay, the nation’s premier technology and research institution to jointly pursue research and development work in the Green Hydrogen value chain.

An official release from L&T said that both institutions have joined hands to contribute towards the development of Green Hydrogen industry in India and to develop next-generation technol9gy in this emerging field.

L&T’s engineering expertise, product scale-up and commercialisation know-how and IiT Bombay’s cutting-edge research in hydrogen technologies will help this partnership accomplish its goal, according to the release.

SN Subrahmanyan, CEO and MD, L&T, said the company has always been in the forefront to drive technological advancements and indigenisation in India across sectors.

“We are positioning ourselves to drive Green Hydrogen economy in India together with our partners. Our partners and clients are also looking forward to leveraging our capability to reduce costs and industrialise Green Hydrogen,” Subrahmanyan added.

He also expressed hope that the collaboration with liT Bombay and its world-class technologists will support the cause of developing globally competitive technologies indigenously, and nudge India towards AatmaNirbhar in Green Hydrogen technology.

Net Zero

Speaking on the collaboration, Prof Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, liT Bombay said that given the urgency of the climate crisis and India’s own ambitious target of becoming ‘Net Zero’ by 2070, transition from fossil fuel to Green Hydrogen will play a key role in this goal.

“India’s National Hydrogen Mission is a step in the right direction, and I am confident that our partnership with L&T will result in scalable and cost-effective solutions,” Chaudhuri said.

He stated that liT Bombay’s endeavour is to contribute significantly to challenges of national importance, and its association with L&T to develop technologies for Green Hydrogen that can make India self-focused approach and the constant quest for top-class quality have enabled L&T to attain and sustain leadership in its major lines of business for eight decades.
