THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stage is set for the collaboration of RMI India and Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL) for the expansion of EV charging infrastructure across the state.

RMI India (Rocky Mountain Institute India) is the Indian arm of the world-renowned Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), a global nonprofit organisation focused on promoting clean energy and sustainable solutions.

RMI India is involved in providing technical support and expertise to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. They work on projects related to the development of EV charging networks, policy recommendations, and scaling up the deployment of clean mobility solutions

Though it’s some time now since the electric vehicles (EV) have started being sold here, charging continues to be a challenge in Kerala especially in multi-storied apartment societies.

No clarity

There’s yet no clarity on whether the apartment owners can have their own charging units installed in their parking slots. Though the High Court has given directives to the government to sort out this issue at the earliest, Kerala government hasn’t moved yet on this.

Letter of Intent soon

KSEBL will soon issue letter of intent (LOI) to RMI India for commencing the collaboration on topics related to electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Kerala, according to a KSEBL official document.

It was some time back RMI India submitted a proposal showing its keen interest in collaborating with KSEBL to provide technical assistance in accelerating the deployment of EV charging infrastructure across Kerala.

The scope of this collaboration was defined particularly focusing on the EV Accelerator Cell of KSEBL and expanding the charging network in the state

Robust EV charging system

KSEBL believes the expertise and the pro-bono support from RMI will significantly enhance KSEBL’s capacity to develop and manage a robust EV charging infrastructure in Kerala.

It also hopes this collaboration would help KSEBL to be a leader in clean mobility solutions.

The scope of this collaboration was defined particularly focusing on the EV Accelerator Cell of KSEBL and expanding the charging network in the state.

The LOI to be issued by KSEBL will seek RMI to outline their proposal and commitment to providing technical assistance to KSEBL and other vital services to the EV Accelerator Cell of KSEBL.

EV Infrastructure Dashboard

Basically RMI will be required to offer technical assistance for EV Accelerator Cell, help the cell in developing EV Infrastructure Dashboard and also to offer research and analytical support in grid impact and in developing operational guidelines for EV infrastructure.
