THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/April 13-2022: The Kerala state finance department has allocated Rs30 crore today (Wednesday) towards salary for the employees of the financially embattled KSRTC, the state’s transportation arm.

In fact, KSRTC has demanded Rs87 crore from finance department to settle the delayed salary of 25,000 odd employees of the corporation, but only less than one-third of what was asked for was approved by the department.

The employees’ unions of the transport corporation had planned to go on strike against the failure of the authorities to pay salary to its employees during the festival season, with both Vishu and Easter round the corner.

Today also marked the inaugural day of the KSRTC Swift which has been formed with the sole purpose of operating long-distance routes.  The finance ministry sources said already Rs230 crore has been sanctioned for KSRTC during the last one month alone, Rs142 crore against pensions, Rs60 crore to repay loans from the consortium and the latest instalment of Rs30 crore towards the salary.
