New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker, is expected to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) by the end of 2025.

Sources indicate that the carmaker will retail its EV-SUVs through NEXA, Maruti Suzuki’s premium/luxury showroom chain spanning across the nation.

Maruti Suzuki’s EVs will be equipped with a 60kWh battery set and is claimed to have a range of 550km. The EV has been developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki.

In addition to targeting the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki is also setting its sights on the European and Japanese markets, according to sources.

According to Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, “The electric SUV introduced by Maruti Suzuki will be available through NEXA.”

With a commanding 65% market share, Maruti Suzuki is a dominant player in the non-SUV segment of the Indian market and aims to expand its share to 50% overall. Currently, Maruti Suzuki holds approximately 22% market share, with new brands such as Jumny, Brezza, and Grand Vitara contributing significantly to sales growth last year.

While SUVs continue to gain momentum, Maruti Suzuki is also focused on consolidating and retaining its share in other segments, Srivastava noted.

NEXA, Maruti Suzuki’s premium outlets established in 2015, cater to the company’s higher-priced models. The channel currently boasts over 1 million customers and operates in 200 towns/cities nationwide.
