Tokyo: Nissan and Honda Motor, the two Japanese automobile giants, are reportedly considering establishing a joint venture to manufacture essential spare parts for electric vehicles (EVs) and to integrate AI into automotive software platforms, according to media reports.

If the proposed strategic partnership comes to fruition, it could enable the automakers to produce EVs at competitive prices. Currently, both companies are encountering stiff competition in the market from China’s BYD, Tesla, and other global EV leaders.

“Nissan chief executive (CEO) Makoto Uchida highlighted, “Emerging players are very aggressive and are making inroads at incredible speed.”

The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore potential areas of collaboration, although the exact scope is yet to be determined, stated Honda president Toshihiro Mibe.
