Passenger vehicles drive Tata Motors domestic sales up 26%

November sales grow from 38,057 to 47,859 year on year

MUMBAI/December 1-2020: The domestic auto market has started showing definite signs of revival with the market leader endorsing the trend during the month of November.

The domestic sales for the country’s largest auto manufacturer by far, Tata Motors, for the month of November 2020 have improved by 26 per cent to 47,859 year-on-year, from 38,057 units for the same period last year.

However, sequentially, there has been marginal fall of 4 per cent in the November sales compared with the October sales of 49,669 units.

The domestic sales in November has been backed by the sales in passenger vehicles (PV), which grew by 108 per cent from 10,400 during November, 2019 to 21,641 units for the same month in the current year, though sequentially, the sales saw a drop of 8 per cent from 23,641 units in October.

Commercial vehicles

But the sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market witnessed a dip of 5 per cent year-on-year as the November 2020 sales dropped from 27,657 vehicles to 26,218.

CV export falls 40 pc

At the same time exports of commercial vehicles (CV) during November dropped substantially by 40 per cent as the number declined from 2,931 to 1,764 year-on-year.

The biggest decline in the commercial vehicles segment has been contributed by passenger carriers as the sales in the segment plummeted by 69 per cent year-on-year, from 2,209 to 685 vehicles during November 2020.

Except in the intermediate & light commercial vehicles (I & LCV) segment, which saw a growth of 11 per cent, from 3,611 units to 4,025, all other segments under domestic commercial vehicles witnessed drop in their sales in November, 2020, compared with the same month last year.
