NEW DELHI:  Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced a significant expansion of their codeshare agreement, marking the first enhancement of their partnership since 2010.

The development introduces 11 domestic and 40 international destinations to their network, greatly enhancing travel options between Singapore and India.

The expansion aims to provide more seamless travel experiences for passengers and is expected to significantly increase connectivity between the two nations.

Beginning October 27, passengers will benefit from additional codeshare services on routes between Singapore and major Indian cities, Bengaluru and Chennai. The collaboration will elevate the total number of weekly scheduled codeshare flights between India and Singapore from an existing 14 to a remarkable 56.

Such a substantial increase signifies a concerted effort to meet the rising demand for air travel between these economically and culturally rich regions.

Greater connectivity

Under this agreement, SIA will codeshare on Air India’s domestic flights, connecting major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to several key destinations including Amritsar, Bengaluru, and Coimbatore, among others.

The strategic alignment not only streamlines travel for Air India customers but also opens up access to an impressive 29 destinations across SIA’s extensive network. Major cities in Australia, Southeast Asia, Japan, and beyond are now within reach, enhancing customer travel options significantly.

Nipun Aggarwal, the Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership, stating, “Air India and Singapore Airlines have been longtime partners, and with this, we have expanded the scope of our codeshare agreement. We are excited to offer our guests greater connectivity to destinations across South East Asia, the Far East, and Australasia.”

The sentiment underscores the airlines’ commitment to improving travel experiences and fostering international connectivity.
