Emergency at Thiruvananthapuram airport as bomb threat to flight

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A full emergency was declared at Thiruvananthapuram Airport on Thursday following a bomb threat on an Air India flight from Mumbai.

The flight, carrying 135 passengers, landed safely at approximately 8:00 AM and was immediately directed to an isolation bay. All passengers were safely evacuated by 8:44 AM.

The threat was reported by the pilot at around 7:30 AM as the aircraft approached Thiruvananthapuram. In response, airport authorities declared a full emergency at 7:36 AM. While the situation was handled swiftly, details regarding the origin of the threat are still pending.

An Air India spokesperson confirmed, “A specific security alert was detected on Air India flight AI657 during its journey from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram on August 22. The flight landed safely and has been parked in a remote bay for mandatory security checks. All passengers and crew have disembarked safely.”

There has been no impact on life, and airport operations remain unaffected. Further information on the threat is awaited.
