Jio’s mobile users count rose to 47.24 crore in May, adding 21.9 lakh

MUMBAI: In May 2024, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel dominated India’s mobile market with a combined user base of 34.4 lakh, as per data from telecom regulator TRAI.

Reliance Jio saw a significant gain of 21.9 lakh new wireless users, while Bharti Airtel added 12.5 lakh customers during the month. In contrast, Vodafone Idea faced a steep decline, losing 9.24 lakh wireless subscribers.

Reliance Jio’s total mobile subscriber count rose to 47.46 crore in May from 47.24 crore in April, as reported in the latest TRAI telecom subscription data. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea’s wireless user base continued its downward trend, dropping to 21.81 crore users by the end of May.

TRAI also noted that in May 2024, 12 million subscribers opted for Mobile Number Portability (MNP), bringing the cumulative MNP requests to 985.60 million since its inception. Additionally, India’s broadband subscriber base grew to 93.5 crore by the end of May 2024, marking a monthly growth rate of 0.72 per cent.
